COVID-19 cases declining worldwide: WHO

New Delhi, Feb 17(UNI) The World Health Organisation(WHO) said on Tuesday that there has been a gradual decline in the number of new coronavirus cases being reported across the world.

According to a statement by the WHO, in the last week, the number of new coronavirus cases reported numbered at 2.7 million across the world which was 16 per cent less than the number of cases recorded the week before.

Similarly, the world also witnessed a fall in the number of people succumbing to the virus, which stood at 81,000 this week which was a 10 per cent fall from the previous week.

Of the six major regions of the world, it said, five showed a clear fall in the number of infections. It was only the Eastern Mediterranean Region which saw a jump in the number of COVID cases by 7 per cent. Europe as a whole and the United States have also witnessed a sharp fall in the number of new COVID cases. At the same time there has been a fall in the number of COVID related deaths across the world.
