COVID case count rises to 34,583 in UT, Corona death toll mount to 590

Puducherry, Oct 28 (UNI) Coronavirus case count in the Union Territory rose to 34,583 with 102 more persons getting infected with the virus.
After no deaths recorded in the last two days, two persons died since the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 590.

According to the COVID-19 status released by the health department here, of the 3,972 swab sample tests conducted on Tuesday, 102 persons tested positive. 75 of them were in Puducherry region, 8 each in Karaikal, Yanam regions and 11 in Mahe region.

As many as 154 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. Of them 103, were from Puducherry region, 21 from Karaikal region,13 from Yanam region and 17 from Mahe region.

Both the deaths were reported in Puducherry region.

Presently,1336 patients are being treated in Puducherry region, 54 in Karaikal region, 68 in Yanam region and 82 in Mahe region. Another 2,146 persons tested positive for COVID were taking treatment in all the four regions of UT.

So far, 34,583 persons are infected by the virus and of which 30,307 were treated and discharged, 590 died and 3,686 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolations.

Director of Medical Services Dr Mohan Kumar in a Whatsapp post said that the case fatality rate in the UT is 1.71 per cent and recovery rate 87.64 per cent. He said a 55-year-old woman died in the government medical college while a 77-year-old man succumbed to the virus in Jipmer.

Both died of Covid Pneumonia and ARDS and they were having comorbidity of hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus, Dr Kumar added.
