COVID: Marathwada region records biggest spike of 7596 cases with 91 fatalities

The eight districts of Marathwada region recorded the biggest single-day spike of 7,596 novel coronavirus cases and 91 fatalities, health authorities said on Friday.
Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Aurangabad was the worst affected, which recorded the highest number of positive cases ie 1,329 cases and 23 deaths, followed by Nanded with 1228 new cases and 19 deaths, Latur had 1663 cases and 18 deaths, Parbhani registered 676 new cases and 12 deaths, Jalna had 702 cases and 10 deaths, Beed had 963 cases and 5 deaths, Hingoli had 271 cases 4 deaths and Osmanabad had 764 cases.

Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, a total of 61,695 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the past day across the state, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 36,39,855.

The state also registered 349 more deaths, taking the death toll to 59,153.

Meanwhile, the highest 53,335 patients recovered and were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 29,59,056 in the state.

The state’s recovery rate currently stands at 81.3 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.63 per cent.

At present there are 6,20,060 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, they added.

In view of the rising number of cases, the state government had imposed a 15-day curfew in the state upto May 1 under the initiative of ‘ break the chain’ exempting emergency services.
