NEW DELHI, June 17, 2022—Senior Delhi Congress leaders, addressing a joint press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, said that Congress leader Shri Rahul Gandhi was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in the National Herald case for three consecutive days just to harass him, as he has been speaking the truth against the misdeeds of the Modi Government, but the lakhs of   Indian National Congress workers in the country, and  crores of Congress supporters, will not be scared by the police atrocities against them as they will fight to uphold the truth, till the very end. They said that the ED was targeting Shri Rahul Gandhi, who has been summoned by it again on Monday (20th June), and Congress president Smt. Sonia Gandhi, as they have been exposing the corruption and misgovernance of the BJP while letting down the  people of the country, but Congress workers will continue their Satyagraha as they were fighting against forces who were trying to destroy democracy to foist an authoritarian rule. Those who addressed the press conference were ex-MLAs Shri Hari Shankar Gupt, Shri Jaikishan and DPCC vice-president Shri Ali Mehndi. Chairman of the Legal and Human Rights Department of the DPCC Advocate Sunil Kumar and Vice-chairman of the DPCC Communications Department Shri Anuj Attrey were also present.

He said that the ED was stretching the case needlessly, as the BJP wants to usurp the Herald Building. He said that the Congress workers, who held peaceful protests against the illegal action by the ED, were lathi-charged, arrested, assaulted and locked up in police stations and jails for over 20 hours without food and water, to thwart their democratic rights to hold Satyagrahas.

Shri Hari Shankar Gupta said that lawyers sympathetic to the Congress party were arrested when they protested against the harassment being meted out to Rahulji. He said that the Legal and Human  Rights Department of the DPCC filed a complaint against Delhi Police to the National Human Rights Commission, seeking action against the  guilty. He said that the BJP was spreading lies and canards against the Congress party and Rahulji, “but we have resolved to fight against BJP’s  undemocratic, high-handed actions, till we get justice.”

Shri Jaikishan said that Shri Rahul Gandhi was fighting for unity and equality in the country, and for the unemployed youth and Dalits, to strengthen the country by exposing the corruption and  duplicity of the Modi Government. He said that the Congress workers will not be scared by the atrocities of the police on them. He said that the party will take its peaceful Satyagraha to all corners of the country against the BJP and its use of the police to terrorize the Congress workers. He said that the National Herald newspaper, started by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, has a great history as it was an integral part of the freedom movement, and was the country’s voice, but the BJP, which played no role in the Independence struggle, wants to destroy it.

DPCC vice-president Shri Ali Mehndi said that Congress workers submitted memorandums to the District Magistrates in all the 14 districts of Delhi about the police atrocities against, and sought action against the guilty.
