New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) With an aim to meet the demand of life saving medical oxygen to many hospitals, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has arranged 115 big size of cylinders with having capacity of 10,000 litres for various hospitals in Delhi.
In this regard, DRDO has handed over 75 such cylinders to the Department of Health and Family Welfare of the Delhi Government while 40 such containers have been provided to Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) run Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre and Hospital at Chhatarpur in South Delhi which has been handed over to Cabinet Secretariat officials here.
These cylinders are of 80 litres water capacity each and can be pressurized upto 130 bar, therefore, each of these cylinders can store 10,000 Litres of oxygen.
These cylinders are high pressure seamless cylinders certified by Bureau of Indian Standards and approved by PESO (Petroleum & Explosives Safety Organization), Govt of India which have been specially airlifted from Vadodara, Gujarat, the DRDO said in a statement.
The defence research wing has been actively providing all supports in Covid management and it has set up Covid care hospitals in Delhi, Ahmedabad have been made functional while it has and converted an ESIC hospital into a 500-bed Covid facility in Patna. In addition, hospitals with 450 beds in Lucknow and 750 beds in Varanasi are expected to be functional soon. A sixth Covid hospital is being readied in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur.
The DRDO has also stepped in to address the oxygen crisis precipitated by the second wave of the disease. It has transferred oxygen generation technology to the industry, which has now started providing oxygen plants to state governments and hospitals
