Family of youth arrested by NIA on terrorism charges protest in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 1 : Family members and relatives of 18-year-old Arsalan Feroz from Zaldagar Srinagar who was arrested by National Investigation Agency on terrorism charges on Saturday staged a protest demanding his release.

NIA on Friday said that the agency arrested Arsalan, an “operative” of “The Resistance Front”.

His family, however, contested the NIA claim.

“We produced Arsalan before the police and we were shocked to know about the NIA’s claim that Arsalan is a TRF operative ,” a family member said. “ A team of NIA raided the Zaldagar house of Arsalan in his absence and they told us to call Arslan and we produced him before the police.”

The family members claimed that he was innocent and appealed to J&K Lt Governor to intervene and get Arsalan released at an earliest.

On Friday, NIA said it arrested a TRF operative, Arsalan Feroz alias Arsalan resident of Zaldagar, old Srinagar in a case of radicalising, motivating and recruiting youth of J&K by Lashkar-e-Toiba.

“Search conducted led to recovery of several incriminating documents and digital devices,” NIA statement said, adding investigation in the case continues. NIA said till now four accused have been arrested in the case.
