Five shops, 61 vegetable carts gutted in massive fire in Kupwara

Srinagar, May 31 (UNI) As many as five shops, three warehouses, 61 vegetable carts were damaged in a massive fire in the border district of Kupwara in north Kashmir, official sources said on Monday.

A fire broke out at Sabzi market near Old Bus Stand in Handwara in Kupwara at around 2130 hrs on Sunday. Fire tenders were rushed to douse the leaping flames, clearly visible from a distance, they said.

However, before the fire was brought under control, five shops and three warehouses in a double storey building, besides 40 vegetable and 21 handcarts were damaged in the incident. “No one was injured in the fire,” they said, adding the cause of the fire was not immediately known.
They said police has registered a case and initiated investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
