Govt allows import of medical devices for 3 months

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) The government on Thursday allowed import of medical devices, particularly oxygen devices, for three months to fight the COVID-19 pandemic which is sweeping the country.

The government permitted importers of medical devices for making mandatory declarations after custom clearance and before sale, Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal said.

“Govt. under the leadership of PM @NarendraModiiji permits importers of medical devices for making mandatory declarations required under Legal Metrology Rules, 2011 after custom clearance & before sale. This will help fulfil demand of medical devices required for COVID-19,” said Goyal in a tweet.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs in an advisory said there is a steep demand for medical devices in this critical condition on an urgent basis in view of the emergent health concerns and immediate supply to the medical industry.

The government therefore permitted the importers of medical devices to import medical devices for three months.

The medical devices that can be imported include nebulisers, oxygen concentrators, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices, oxygen canister, oxygen filling systems, oxygen cylinders, including cryogenic cylinders, oxygen generators, and any other device from which oxygen can be generated, among others.
