GP Polls: Cong wins most seats, Sena finishes last in Sangli

Sangli, Jan 19 (UNI) In the just-concluded polls, the Congress clinched the first spot here by winning the highest 49 gram panchayats while the Shiv Sena finished last with 15 gram panchayats in its’ kitty

A total of 152 gram panchayats across Sangli district went to polls on January 15 while the counting was completed on Monday.

According to official results, the NCP and the local are neck and neck as they have emerged victorious on 34 GPs each followed by the BJP which bagged 20 GPs.

In Mhaisal GP, the BJP-led panel defeated the group of Manoj Shinde who is the brother-in-law of Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil. Also Maharashtra NCP chief, Patil had extended support to Mr Shinde.

Similarly, the Congress party led by Minister of State Viswajeet Kadam won the significant GPs of Palus and Jat while Shiv Sena MLA Anil Babar’s panel won Khanapur and Atpadi seats.
