Guru Gobind birth anniversary celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 20 (UNI) The birth anniversary of one of the pioneers of Sikhism Guru Gobind Singhji was on Wednesday celebrated with religious fervour in the Kashmir valley.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, his advisors and leaders of different political parties, greeted people, particularly Sikh community, on the occasion.
Despite below freezing temperature, members of the Sikh community visited Gurdwaras and other religious places to join the special prayers on the occasion.
However, the main function could not be held at Gurdawara Chetipadshahi Rainawari in the downtown Srinagar where some renovation work was going on for the past some months.
Because of renovation in the interior parts of the Gurdwara no function was held there today, Chairman of All Party Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Jagmohan Singh Rain told UNI.
He said now the main function was held in Gurdwara Baghat Barzulla in the uptown Srinagar.
Despite minus 6 degree minimum temperature, members of the Sikh community, including women and children prayed at Gurdwara at Barzullah and other places, including Jawahar Nagar and Mehjoor Nagar.
Reports of Guru Gobind Singhji birth anniversary celebrations were also received from other parts of the Kashmir valley, including Tral, Baramulla, Anantnag and Pattan.
Meanwhile, APSCC chairman Mr Raina in a statement said Guru Ji was one of the pioneers of Sikhism. He said the teachings of Guru Ji are very much relevant even in the contemporary time adding the people would prosper if they follow the teachings in letter and spirit.
Raina said that people especially the members of Sikh community should learn from the sacrifices offered by Guru Ji and his accomplices. He said that Guru Ji adorned the Sikhs with the five K’s and transformed them into a martial community for the protection of humanity without any bias of caste, creed or religion.
The APSCC Chairman said that people from Kashmir were having blessings of the Guru Ji and it was his persuasion that motivated Guru Teg Bahadur to sacrifice his life for the safety and security of the mankind.
He prayed for the peace and prosperity of the people on this occasion. APSCC leaders, including Ajit Singh Mastana, Sant Singh, Principal Naranjan Singh, Davinder Singh, Gurudayal Singh and Master Kuldeep Singh have also greeted the people on this occasion.
Apni Party (AP)President Syed Mohammed Altaf Bukhari has greeted people of Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
In his message, Bukhari said that the teachings of Guru Ji, the 10th Guru give courage to fight against the evil and stand by the truth.
While praying for the peace and prosperity of J&K, he said, “Guru Ji advocated universal love, humanity and peace.”
Besides, all the office bearers of Apni Party have also greeted people on the auspicious occasion of Guru Ji’s birth anniversary.

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) President, Member of Parliament Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah also greeted the people in general and Sikh community in particular on the 354th birth anniversary of Guru Ji .
Former chief ministers in their message on the occasion said that such festivals and observances are emblematic of the pluralistic visage of Jammu and Kashmir. They prayed that the day increases the prospects of peace and prospects in Jammu and Kashmir and the country in general.
“The message of Guru Ji was that of peace and universal brotherhood. He preached the people to purge the vice and other social evils. On this day we pay our tributes to Guruji and hope that the day strengthens the bond of brotherhood and camaraderie,” the duo said while greeting the people.

Former chief minister and president Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti also greeted people of the state on the 354th birth anniversary of Guruji.
In her felicitation message, Mehbooba said that Guruji’s message of humanity, brotherhood, and tolerance shall continue to inspire the world and there is a need to follow the noble teachings of the great spiritual ambassador.
