Hope SC stays Article 370 revocation: Mehbooba

Srinagar, April 26 : A day after the Supreme Court agreed to hear the pleas challenging the Centre’s decision to abrogate Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti hopes the apex court “stays not only revocation of Article 370 but also reverses all the illegal laws brought in”. The now abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. “A state robbed of its legal and constitutional special status was cleaved into two and disempowered. Yet it took Supreme Court three years to list the case. Hope the Hon’ble Court stays not only revocation of Article 370 but also reverses all the illegal laws brought in,” Mehbooba tweeted. Around two dozen petitions challenging the validity of the J&K Reorganisation Act 2019 — which divided the erstwhile state into two Union Territories — and nullification of Article 370 were filed in the apex court and had been pending before for almost three years. The top court had on August 28, 2019 referred petitions challenging Presidential Orders nullifying Article 370 of the Constitution to a five-judge Constitution Bench.
