HP:Hindustan Tibet National Highway to remain closed at Nigulsari

Shimla, Aug 29 : Kinnaur District Administration was on Sunday warned by the Geological Survey of India to keep on removing all loose rocks from the Nigulsari hills above the roads to avert further mishap.
The district administration has therefore decided to suspend vehicular traffic off on Hindystsn Tibet National Highway-5 from 0900hrs to 1800hrs on August 30.
Deputy commissioner Kinnaur Abid Husain Sadik said that a team of Geological Survey of India has submitted a report of mishap which also recommended and advised the administration to keep on clearing loose and unstable stone, rock and exposed boulder to avoid further mishap on the hill where recently an accident took place.
A source in the GSI informed the agency that the mishap could not be attributed to any one reason and indicated that it was man-made catastrophe including mining and tunneling for road and power projects. He however said that fragile ecology of the region could also be a reason for the accident.
A notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner on Saturday, a copy of which was given to UNI here on Sunday said that vehicular traffic would be restricted near Nigulsari (Kinnaur) from (09 am to 06 pm).
A decision was taken by the authorities after the continuous shooting of a small-2 stone in the landslide area at Nigulsari (Kinnaur) in National Highway-05 and on the advisory of GSI.
He said that on the top of the mountain above the road all loose rock, heavy boulders and stones will be removed or cleared manually.
“In view of the danger of damage to those commuting on the road below and for the safety of life and property, the Public Works Department in coordination with other departments, will remove all small and big stones which are susceptible to sliding down” he added.
Earlier the administration announced on August 13 that vehicular traffic will be allowed to ply during the day due to safety issues on the road.
As it has been stated that as many as 28 people were killed and 17 others injured in the landslides at Nigulsari of Kinnaur district which hit seven vehicles including an HRTC bus on August 11 this month.
