Hyd man held for D Company death threat to MP Pragya

Bhopal, July 8 : A Hyderabad-resident has been placed under arrest on the charge of issuing a death threat to Bhopal parliamentarian Pragya Singh Thakur in the name of ‘D Company’ – the criminal syndicate founded and controlled by terrorist-cum-drug dealer Dawood Ibrahim.

Police said on Friday that the Cyber Crime Cell’s officers invested tremendous effort in gathering information regarding Sheikh Nazir – on the basis of technical points – following which a look-out circular was issued against the suspect who was ultimately taken into custody in Delhi while busy in a flight-interchange process vis-à-vis Hyderabad. A law-enforcement team was dispatched to that southern city as well.

The accused was brought to the Madhya Pradesh capital and – during interrogation – confessed to having made the WhatsApp call to Ms Thakur on June 18. Using an international cellular phone number, Nazir – a plumber by profession and educated up to the tenth standard – claimed to owe allegiance to the Ibrahim Kaskar (Dawood’s sibling) group and told the politician that she would be assassinated within three days. He ended the call and switched off the device.

Ms Thakur subsequently lodged a complaint at the TT Nagar Police Station.

Owing to the gravity of the matter, further details are being collected regarding Nazir.
