Income tax commissioner’s house burgled in Nagpur

Unidentified persons broke into the house of a senior Income Tax department official here in Maharashtra and allegedly decamped with jewellery and cash collectively worth Rs 2.2 lakh, police said here on Tuesday.

According to police the incident took place in Seminary Hills area here in the house of I-T Commissioner, Rajesh Ranjan Dinanath Prasad. The IT official had gone to Mumbai on August 6 and the incident came to light on Monday morning when he returned to Nagpur.

During his absence, some persons broke the lock of his house and allegedly decamped with Rs 60,000 cash and a gold necklace kept in a cupboard, the official said.

Gittikhadan police have registered a case and further probe was underway, police added.
