Kejriwal slams BJP, Cong for opposing installation of 500 flag masts across Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday slammed the BJP and Congress for opposing various initiatives announced by the Delhi government, such as installing 500 flag masts across Delhi and free pilgrimage to Ram Mandir in Ayodhya for elders.
Mr Kejriwal, who addressed the Delhi Legislative Assembly, congratulated Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who holds the finance portfolio, for presenting an excellent and surplus budget despite difficult circumstances that Delhi had to witness due to less tax and revenue collection.
The Delhi Chief Minister ridiculed the opposition for mocking his government for announcing some ambitious projects such as bidding for Olympics 2048 to be held in Delhi and bringing Delhi’s per capita income at par with Singapore by 2047. He said that these opposition parties should have faith in the people of Delhi as well as the Delhi government, as it has fulfilled all the promises made in the previous terms despite continuous mocking and backlash from several political opponents.
“When we fought elections in 2013, we promised to provide electricity at half rates, but they used to mock us. We did it in just 49 days. We promised to improve education and government schools and they mocked us. We did it in just 5 years,” he said.
The Delhi government passed Rs 69,000 crore financial statement for 2021-22 during the session. It also intends to increase city’s per capita income to Singapore’s level by 2047 and was themed on patriotism.
The budget session of the Delhi Assembly ended on Friday, four days ahead of its original schedule.
Speaker Ram Niwas Goel adjourned the budget session indefinitely as all official businesses have been transacted and the country is witnessing surge in coronavirus infections.
