Bengaluru, Jan16(UNI) Karnataka Government on Saturday urged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to allot 750 acres of defence land in Belagavi for setting up an IT-Park.
A memorandum to this effect was submitted to the Defence Minister during his recent visit to the Air Base at Yelahanka, on the outskirts of the City, by Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan, who is also Minister for IT,BT.
According to an official release here on Saturday by the DCM office, there was a positive response by the Union Minister.
About 10,000 acres of land was handed over to the Defence Department earlier and the lease period will be renewed once in 10 years. However, the Defence Department is not using the entire land and hence it is proposed to provide 750 acres of land to establish the IT-BT park in Belagavi.
Dr Ashwath Narayan said that more than 60 lakh jobs will be created in North Karnataka if the IT-BT park was set up.
