KVK Jammu organized a “Campaign on Poshan Abhiyan and Tree Plantation” in collaboration with IFFCO under the able guidance of Prof J P Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J at KVK Jammu, R.S. Pura.
The program was inaugurated by planting a sapling at Technology park of KVK Jammu. On this occasion, Chief Guest Dr. Sumati Sharma Ex Additional Director DRDO, New Delhi, highlighted the importance of plantation and nutritious food for healthy human life and motivated the extension functionaries to work with enthusiasm to achieve the objectives of mitigating the malnutrition through nutri-sensitive agriculture by promoting poshan vatika inside their homes and anganwadi centers. She stressed on the awareness programs on the use of millets in daily diets and development of affordable products with easy accessibility and better assimilation in human body.
Prof S K Gupta Director Extension SKUAST JAMMU, highly appreciated the efforts of KVK jammu in sensitizing the farming community on the whole and women in particular towards kitchen gardening for safe, healthy, in expensive and indigenous varieties of fruits and vegetable for sustainability.
Ms Ateeksha Sethi, CDPO, R S Pura apprised the gathering about various activities being conducted under the poshan abhiyan campaign and requested KVK Jammu for collaborative approach towards providing technical knowhow in millet cultivation, processing and dietary inclusion. Dr Ravneet Kour, Chief Scientist, KVK Jammu quoted the several examples of fortified varieties for adoption by the farmers and many products with enhanced nutritive value like multigrain breads, multigrain aata, sugar free biscuits etc. Dr Sheetal Badyal, Sr Scientist, KVK Jammu gave and overview on prevalence and mitigation of Malnutrition through Nutritive and balanced diet and promotion of Nutritive sensitive Agriculture. Dr Neeraj gupta discussed about Nutri-cereals and their role in human Health. Dr Muneeshwar, Dr Amitesh, KVK Jammu and Mr Vivek from IFFCO deliberated on Safe and judicious use of pesticides, Natural farming and Role of Nano fertilizers respectively to the anganwadi workers to increase their technical and scientific skills.
