Deoria , A man was sentenced to life imprisonment and penalty of Rs 13,000 on charges of murdering his wife by a local court here on Monday.
Prosecution sources said that Saraswati got married to Kanhaiya Lal, a resident of Bahsuwa village under Madanpur police station and since marriage she was being harassed by her in-law for dowry. “On June 10, 2010 Kanhaiya along with his father Faujdar and mother Kalawati assaulted Saraswati and forced her to drink poison,” they said.
Prosecution sources said that a case of dowry and dowry murder was lodged against Kanhaiya, Faujdar and Kalawati at Rudrapur police station. “During the trial Faujdar and Kalawati died. During hearing the court converted the case into that of murder and on Monday held Kanhaiya guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment,” they said.
