MP floods: 1,225 villages hit; about 10,000 people rescued, 12 die

Bhopal, Aug 4 : Even as Madhya Pradesh combats the scourge of inclement weather in its northern region, 12 fatalities have been reported thus far – seven of them in Shivpuri District alone.
Premier Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured; it was officially learnt. Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah is also being constantly apprised of the situation.

Bharatiya Janata Party President Jagat Prakash Nadda and Congress state President Kamal Nath appealed to their respective parties’ workers to extend help to the affected. Saffron camp bigwig P Muralidhar Rao subsequently felicitated BJP workers for plunging into mission mode.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan cautioned against rumours. The veteran leader aerially surveyed in excess of four dozen inundated villages in Gwalior, Datia, Shivpuri, Morena and Sheopur districts of Gwalior and Chambal divisions. State Home Minister Narottam Mishra also visited affected zones.

A total 1,225 villages of Shivpuri, Sheopur, Datia, Gwalior, Guna, Bhind and Morena districts are hit. Thus far; 1,500 residents have been evacuated from 32 hamlets in Sheopur; 2,000 from 90 villages in Shivpuri and 5,950 from 90 in Datia, Gwalior, Morena and Bhind. When reports last came in, endeavours were underway to save 1,950.
