NAHEP-IDP SKUAST Jammu Organizes Lecture on Strategic Communication

NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-Jammu and Counselling and Placement Cell organized online guest lecture for students and faculty members on “Strategic communication for effective results: The impact paradigm”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ruchi Sehgal, Manager, Professional Readiness Programme, SPJ School of Global Management, Dubai, UAE. In his inaugural remarks, Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu, stressed the value of both verbal and non-verbal communication. He asserted that the vast majority of the information we share with others through our interactions is non-verbal communication, which is innate and instinctive. He continued by saying that nonverbal cues like posture, eye contact, facial emotions, and hand gestures all play a role in how well we understand and communicate with one another. He further emphasized that before communicating, it is important to understand who the target audience is, as well as what their preferences and areas of interest are and if the message is irrelevant to the audience, they won’t pay attention to it. In her talk Dr. Ruchi Sehgal highlighted the importance of strategic communication. She said that strategic communication is purposeful use of communication interaction to achieve intended goals and outcomes.
Speaking about impact paradigm, she mentioned that it provides a practical approach to communication that has the impact on listeners. She also talked about impact exercises by Diane Lennard for releasing stress. After her talk Dr. Sehgal interacted with students and
answered their queries. Lecture was attended by more than 100 students and faculty members and convened by Prof. Sanjay Guleria, Incharge Counselling and Placement Cell, SKUAST Jammu. Prof. Pardeep Wali, Director Research, Prof. SEH Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Prof. B. C. Sharma, Coordinator, NAHEP-IDP & HoD, Agronomy, Prof. Vikas Sharma, Co- Coordinator NAHEP-IDP and HoD Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Prof. Manish Sharma,
HoD, Statistics and Computer Science also participated in the lecture.
