Nitish advises people to avail facilities of govt hospitals

Patna, Dec 14 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday said that government hospitals had been made well equipped with all facilities and there was no need for people to go to private hospitals for treatment but were free to do so if they felt.

Mr Kumar after inaugurating Command and Control Centre of Health department here, said that state government was committed to provide better treatment facilities in government hospitals.

Sincere and concrete steps were being taken to improve treatment facilities in government hospitals since 2005 when his government was voted to power, he added.

” Our government had ordered for a survey in the year 2005 and report was available in the year 2006 which indicated that on an average 39 patients used to visit Primary Health Centres for treatment in a month, which reflected poor health scenario of the state prevailing then,” Chief Minister said adding that following sustained efforts of his government, treatment facilities in government hospitals had improved and number of patients visiting Primary Health Centres for treatment increased to more than ten thousand per month.

Landline telephones were installed in all Primary Health Centres so that presence of doctors and paramedical staff in hospitals could be monitored from Patna, he added.

Mr Kumar said that number of beds available in Primary Health Centres was six when his

government was voted to power in 2005. His government had taken a decision to upgrade the

Primary Health Centres into Community Health Centres with 30 beds capacity, he said adding

that 260 Primary Health Centres had been upgraded into Community Health Centres so far.

Chief Minister while referring to incident of several people losing their vision after cataract surgery

in a private hospital in Muzaffarpur recently, said that there was no need for the people to go to

private hospitals for treatment.

Government hospitals had been made well equipped for better treatment but those wishing to get treatment in private hospitals were free to do so, he added.

It was true that some private hospitals were also providing quality treatment with care and responsibilities, he noted.
