PDP detained leader Para not allowed to take oath: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Dec 29 (UNI) Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday alleged that despite court orders youth president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wahid-ur-Rehman Para, detained by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in alleged terror case, was not allowed to take oath as District Development Council (DDC) member on Monday.

Para was arrested by NIA about five days after he filed his nomination paper for DDC seat from Pulwama. However, he won after his family members and other PDP leader campaigned in his favour. Para remained under the detention of NIA since November 25 for his alleged links with Hizbul Mujahideen (HM).

Taking to micro blogging site Twitter PDP president Mehbooba said “ Despite a clear order from court,@parawahid wasn’t allowed to take oath as DDC member. Proof of how hostile & arrogant J&K admin has become. This amounts to contempt of court but they will get away with it”. Mehbooba who criticized the arrest of Para had congratulated him for winning the election.

On Monday, 138 DDC elected members, including a pregnant woman, from all the 10 districts of the Kashmir valley took oath to uphold the Constitution and Sovereignty of the country. They were administered oath by respective District Development Commissioners.

However, DDC Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary visited the residence of pregnant woman member Rizwana Akhtar in Harwan on the outskirts to administer the oath to her as she was not to attend official oath function held at Tagore hall.

Result of one seat in Kupwara could be declared after counting of votes was stopped on the directions from Election Commission of India (CEI) after it was found that one of the woman candidate was a resident of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) who had married to a local man.
