Krishi Vigyan Kendra Jammu working under the able leadership of Prof. J.P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu organized a Mega Kisan Mela on theme ‘Kissan Bhagidhari Prathmikta Hamari’ wherein large number of farmers, farm women, Panchs, Sarpanchs, Agri-entrepreneurs from different blocks of Jammu district participated in the Mela. Dr. Garu Ram Bhagat, DDC R. S. Pura and Ex-MLA was Chief Guest, where as Dr. S. K. Gupta, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu, DDC Bishnah Sh. Darminder Kumar, DDC Miran Sahib, Smt. Vidya Motan, Chief Agriculture Officer Sh. Arvind Baru, Chief Animal Husbandry Dr. Altaf, Sarpanch Treva Smt. Balbir Kour were guest of honours during the Kisan Mela. Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest Dr. Garu Ram Bhagat, praised the KVK Jammu for their exceptional outreach in the farming community. He also appreciated KVK for organising various training programmes and melas for the benefit of farmers at District and Panchayat level.
Dr. S. K. Gupta, Director extension, SKUAST-Jammu, in his address to the farmers stressed on Post Production Agriculture, Processing, Value addition, marketing and branding of the produce of the farmer for making the agriculture more profitable. At the outset Dr. Punit Choudhary, Senior Scientist and Head KVK Jammu, welcomed the dignitaries and to the programme and shared the achievements of KVK Jammu. During the programme farmers were advised to adopt natural farming techniques and reduce the expenses on chemical fertilizers and pesticides and use biocontrol agents FYM and vermicomposting as their alternatives. Progressive farmers were awarded for their contribution in the field of organic agriculture. During the Programme Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, IFFCO and various Private Entrepreneurs displayed their exhibits in the exhibition. A folder on various schemes being run for the welfare of the farming community prepared by team of KVK Jammu was also released on the occasion. Mega Seed Project, SKUAST-Jammu also opened a separate counter for the sale of paddy seed.
Dr. Ravneet Kour, Scientist Horticulture, Dr. Prem Kumar, Scientist Fisheries, Dr. Sheetal Badyal, Scientist Home Science, Dr. Muneeshwar Sharma, Scientist Plant Protection, Dr. Amitesh Sharma, Scientist Plant Breeding also shared their experiences during interaction with the participants. Dr. Raju Gupta, Er. Ashish Katoch, S. Satbir Singh and Sh. Sahil Talgotra also helped in the smooth conductance of the Programme. The Programme concluded by vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Prem Kumar, Scientist fisheries, KVK Jammu.
