Rain shivers Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) The National Capital and its adjuncts on Monday received thunderstorms with rain leading to cold wave conditions. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), 14.8 mm of rainfall was recorded till 1800 hrs in Delhi. The data of Gurugram and Faridabad was not available at the time of filling the report.

It also rained in eastern part of Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh and isolated parts of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. Jaipur with seven mm, Agra 2.9 mm, Amritsar 2.2 mm, Ludhiana 1.7 mm, Srinagar 0.2 mm were among the areas where rainfall occurred.

There was almost no sunshine in Delhi and in the surrounding areas as the sky remained cloudy throughout the day. The minimum temperature recorded in Delhi was 11.4 deg C, four degrees below normal. In Lucknow the low was 14.7 deg C, Varanasi 13.4, Kanpur 13.8 deg S, and Agra 14.7.

Cold wave prevailed in Punjab where Amritsar recorded a minimum of 11 deg C, Ludhiana 13.4 and Chandigarh 12.7. It also prevailed in Haryana. Ambala saw a low of 11.2 deg C, Rohtak 12.6 deg C and Karnal 10.5 deg C. In Rajasthan, Jaipur registered a minimum of 14.3 deg C, Bikaner 9.4, and Kota 16.5. In Himachal, Shimla shivered at 5.6 deg C, Kangra 8.8 and Manali 2.2.

As per the IMD, the lowest minimum 4.3 deg C was reported at Pilani in east Rajasthan over the plains.

According to the forecast, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and hail are very likely at isolated places over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan.
