Schools/Colleges in Puducherry to reopen on Sept 1: CM

Puducherry, Schools and colleges in the Union Territory will reopen on September 1 on lines of Tamilnadu, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said here on Monday.

Talking to media after a meeting to discuss the issue, the Chief Minister said that for schools classes will for grade 9 to 12 only and the classes will be on a rotation basis. For standard 9 and 10 classes will be on Mondays and for 11 and 12 it will be on Tuesdays and will go on with one day gap, he said, adding that colleges will also follow the format.

The Chief Minister said that 90 per cent of the school/college teachers are vaccinated against Covid and the rest 10 per cent were advised to get vaccinated at the earliest. Special vaccination camps will be held in schools and colleges to enable students to get vaccinated, he added.
Mr Rangasamy said the approval of the union government for the Puducherry budget is expected this evening and he will present the budget on August 26, the opening day of the budget session itself.
Notably, the budget session of the territorial assembly will commence on August 26 with the customary address of the Lt Governor. After the address of the Lt Governor, election to the post of deputy speaker would be held and the chief minister holding finance portfolio will present the annual budget for Rs 10,100 crore in evening of August 26.
