SKUAST-Jammu celebrates World Veterinary Day 2022

SKUAST-Jammu celebrated World Veterinary Day 2022 at its R.S Campus of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry. Prof. J.P Sharma, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu was the Chief Guest, while Shri Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor-Jammu Municipal Corporation and Dr. Arun Kumar Manhas (KAS), Managing Director, J&K State Agro Industries Development Corporation Ltd. were the Guest of Honours during the occasion.

Prof. Sharma while addressing the gathering congratulated the veterinary fraternity and others associated with animal welfare, health and production for their immense contribution in the field of veterinary. He also urged the scientific staff members to work with zeal and zest for the betterment of this profession. He further said that veterinarians are the best doctors in the world as they treat speechless creations of God. He also talked about a new way of reliving stress in human urban population in western countries by going for cow therapy i.,e staying with cows for sometimes. On this occasion, Prof. Sharma suggested the veterinary students to go for personality development by acquiring or developing communication skills apart from their normal learning. He too talked about New Education Policy (NEP 2020) which focuses more on skill development and vocational trainings which will help them to become an entrepreneur.

Guest of Honor, Shri Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor-Jammu Municipal Corporation informed the audience that a very big Pashu Shala (cattle farm) is coming up in Nagrota. He also congratulated the veterinary fraternity for providing selfless service to helpless and speechless creatures. Another Guest of Honor, Dr. Arun Kumar Manhas (KAS), Managing Director, J&K State Agro Industries Development Corporation Ltd. gave an expert lecture on the topic ‘Strengthening Veterinary Resilience’ i,e, the theme of World Veterinary Day 2022.

At the outset, Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, R.S Pura  welcomed the dignitaries and apprised them about the importance of   World Veterinary Day and also the events to take place to celebrate the occasion. He also talked about different problems faced by livestock sectors in India in general and UT of J&K in particular. During the occasion a ‘Logo’ of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Jammu was unveiled by the dignitaries. Veterinary Quiz and Poster making competitions were organised for the students. Dignitaries were overwhelmed by the performances and enthusiasm of the students. Winners were given certificate.

Representatives of pharmaceutical companies like Intas Pharmaceutical Ltd., and Virbac keenly participated and sponsored the programme. Statutory officers of the University namely Dr. S.K Gupta, Registrar; Dr. Pradeep Wali, Director Research; Dr. A.K  Mondal, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture; Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean Students Welfare;  and Dr. S.E.H. Rizwi, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences were present on the occasion. All HoDs, teaching and non teaching staffs of faculty, Dr. Rajkumar, Deputy Director (Poultry), Deptt. of  Animal Husbandry, Belicharana; Dr. Puneet Chaudhary , Sr. Scientist, KVK, Jammu, members of Press & Media and committee members of World Veterinary Day were also present during the programme.

Dr. J.S. Soodan, Prof. & Head, Veterinary Clinical Complex and Organising Secretary of World Veterinary Day 2022 extended vote of thanks while Dr. Aditi Koul, Assistant Professor coordinated the programme.
