Sopore attack widely condemned

Srinagar, Jun 12 : Sopore attack by the militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in which two cops of Jammu and Kashmir police and three civilians were killed and two policemen injured was widely condemned by leaders of different mainstream political parties on Saturday.
Those who condemned the attack include former Chief Ministers (CM) Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, Apni Party (AP) president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Peoples Conference (PC) chief Sajjad Gani Lone and Communist Party of India (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami.
Omar, vice president of the National Conference (NC) said it is a terrible news coming from Sopore.
Such attacks must be condemned without reservation, he said.
Taking to micro blogging site twitter, Omar said ”Terrible news coming in from Sopore. Such attacks must be condemned without reservation. Prayers for the injured & condolences to the families of the deceased”.
President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba condemning the killing in the attack said that gun cannot solve the issue of Kashmir.
Denouncing the use of gun, she said ”whether it is the gun of Delhi or our youth who have picked up arms, it cannot help us resolve the issue. ”
Talking to reporters today on the sideline of her visit to Sweepers colony Noorbagh in Baramulla where over 30 families were rendered homeless after about 15 houses were gutted in a devastating fire on June 10 night she said ”such incidents defame Kashmir and give people (with naming anyone) reasons to use more force against commoners.
We believe that non violence and dialogue is solution to every problem,” she said.
Taking to twitter, former minister Sajjad said, ”When will this madness end. Gun came to Kashmir in 1989. 32 years down the line. I can unambiguously state. That gun enslaves the very people that it purports to fight for. The gunmen really need to ponder whose war they r fighting”.”
”Five succumb in Sopore attack. 3 civilians and 2 police men. Mr gunmen— Approximately—5 Kashmiri funerals. 5 widows. 10 grieving old parents. A dozen or more orphans. All Kashmiris. So mr gunmen. Really want to know. Whose bloody side r u on,” further tweeted Sajjad, who was a minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government from the quota of saffron party.

In a statement issued here, former minister Bukhari termed the attack most gruesome and heart wrenching.
”Violence has never been a solution but a huge impediment in peace and progress of any society. Extremist forces are only adding to the sufferings of people. Regardless of any political, ideological or religious motivations—violence in any of its manifestations is unacceptable,” Bukhari added.

He said that the senseless violence has ravaged all the sections of the society in Jammu and Kashmir inflicting a heavy toll on precious human lives. ”Not only a generation of humans has been lost to this barbaric mode of communication but forces inimical to peace have also wrecked havoc to the socio-economic conditions of the people during the last over three decades,” he observed.

While extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, Bukhari prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and courage to their families to bear the irretrievable loss. ”Apni Party stands in solidarity with the families of slain cops and civilians in this hard and pressing time. We also wish speedy recovery of the injured and urge the government to facilitate their best treatment available at an earliest,” Bukhari remarked.
While strongly condemning the Sopore attack, Tarigami said violence in any form is not in the interest of people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Such incidents leave a question before everybody that for how long the blood of people will continue to flow in Kashmir? Violence and killings can never be a solution to any problem. Violence in any form is highly condemnable and must come to an immediate end.
While expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, he urged the authorities to ensure that proper treatment is made available to the injured persons in the incident.
