The online classes for the academic year 2021-22 commenced on Saturday with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin starting the free books dIstribution scheme for government school students and videos of new syllabus to be telecast through the Kalvi TV channel. ThE free text book scheme, launched at a cost of Rs 292 crore, will benefit 69 lakh students across the State.
At an event held at the Anna Centenary Library in the city, Mr Stalin also interacted with the students present and gave them pens and chocolates. It may be noted that schools were closed since last year in view of the COVID pandemic and classes were being held online.
