Srinagar, Feb 22 (UNI) Jammu-bound Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) stranded between Qazigund to Jawahar tunnel are allowed to move towards their respective destinations while Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) from Jammu to Srinagar on Monday.

However, the national highway, the only road linking Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir remained shut though snow clearance operation has almost been completed.

Meanwhile, the 86-km-long historic Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region remained closed since December last year due to accumulation of snow, particularly at Pir-ki-Gali.

However, massive snow clearance operation was going on Anantnag-Kishtwar road which is likely to reopen for traffic about a month earlier this time.

A traffic police official said today that HMVs which are stranded between Zig Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir to Jawahar tunnel, are allowed to move towards Jammu. No HMVs will be allowed from opposite direction, he added.

However, he said, LMVs were allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar today. The vehicles had to cross Nagrota Jammu between 0500 hrs to 1000 hrs and Jakheni Udhampur from 0600 hrs to 1100 hrs, he said adding no vehicle will be allowed after cut off timing.

He said security forces are advised not to ply against traffic plan in view of the traffic congestion on Srinagar-Jammu highway. They should ply from Srinagar towards Jammu, he added.
