Sustained decline in Covid mortality, no fresh case of new strain of UK reported in past 24 hrs

New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) While there has been a sustained decline in Covid mortality all over the country, the Union Health Ministry on Sunday said that no fresh case of new strain of Coronavirus, first detected in the UK, has been reported in the past 24 hours and the total number infected with the new strain stood at 90 only.

The focused efforts of the Centre and State/UT governments on effective clinical management of hospitalised cases have ensured sustained decline in the country’s Fatality Rate, which stood at 1.44 per cent on Sunday.

‘With effective containment strategy, aggressive testing and standardized clinical management protocols based on holistic Standard of Care Protocol across government and private hospitals, the number of new deaths have dipped,’ the Health Ministry said. Less than 300 new deaths have been recorded in the country since the past 16 days, it added.

The Ministry has also informed that India has one of the lowest Deaths per Million populations (109) whereas countries like Russia, Germany, Brazil, France, USA, UK and Italy have much higher deaths per million population.

The country’s present active caseload of 2,23,335 consists of just 2.14 per cent of India’s Total Positive Cases. A recovery of 19,299 cases in the last 24 hours has ensured a decline of 855 cases from the Total Active Caseload, the Ministry said.

The figure shows the change in active cases in the last 24 hours, with Maharashtra recording maximum positive change with an addition of 1,123 cases, whereas Rajasthan shows maximum negative change with a drop of 672 cases.

The total recovered cases are at 10,075,950 today and the ‘Recovery Rate’ has improved to 96.42 per cent, wherein 79.12 per cent of the new recovered cases was contributed by 10 States/UTs.

Kerala saw 5,424 persons recovering from COVID. Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh reported 2,401 and 1,167 new recoveries, respectively.

Total 18,645 cases were registered in the last 24 hours, which includes 82.25 per cent new cases contributed by 10 States/UTs.

Kerala reported 5,528 cases in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra recorded 3,581 new cases, while Chhattisgarh reported 1,014 daily cases on Saturday.

A total of 201 case fatalities that have been reported in the past 24 hours. Maharashtra reported maximum 57 deaths, followed by Kerala 22 and West Bengal 20.
