TN : PARAM PORUL Super Computer Centre inaugurated at NIT-T in Trichy

Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu), May 25 : In a boost to the research and development initiatives in the country’s academia, ‘PARAM PORUL,’ a state-of-the-art Super Computer Centre was inaugurated at the National Institute of Technology – Tiruchirapalli (NIT-T) on Wednesday.
The Centre was inaugurated by Bhaskar Bhat, Chairperson, Board of Governors, NIT-T.
The PARAM PORUL Super Computing facility was established under Phase-2 of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), a joint initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), which has sanctioned the Super Computer worth Rs 19 crore, according to a NIT-T release.
NIT-T is the only NIT to be part of the NSM amongst all other IITs and National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali, an autonomous Institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology.
The majority of the components used to build this system have been manufactured and assembled within the country. This includes the indigenous software stack developed by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune in line with the Make in India initiative.
The 838 TF Super Computer involving CPU and GPU at a ratio of 70:30 was installed at NIT-T by C-DAC with an additional installation cost of about Rs four crore.
The facility will be helpful to the research scholars and faculty who are working on projects involving high-end computing for carrying out various research and sponsored projects.
The objective of the NSM is to empower technology institutions with high-performance computing capabilities that can be used for solving computationally intensive problems, the release added.
Dr.G.Aghila, Director of NIT-T said the Super Computer facility will enhance the exponential increase in research output and the involvement in societal projects in areas of health, agriculture, weather, financial services and social media.
The Super Computer facility will be made available to neighbouring educational institutions, as mandated in NSM and in line with NEP 2020,
