TRAINING PROGRAMME ON SCOPE, AVENUES AND CULTIVATION OF MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS HELD AT SKUAST-JAMMU

Two days training programme on Scope, Avenues and Cultivation of medicinal Mushrooms was held at Mushroom Unit, SKUAST-J under the aegis of State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) and in collaboration with Division of Plant Pathology. The training programme was held for the officers of Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The trainees were given hands on training on various aspects of cultivation of medicinal mushrooms. During the training programme special lectures and practical sessions were held on substrate preparation and inoculation techniques for cultivation of different mushrooms.

The participants were exposed to the technical problems that one is likely to face while cultivating medicinal mushrooms. Interactive sessions were held between the experts and participants to introduce them to medicinal value and biochemical compounds of medicinal mushrooms. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. Sachin Gupta, Associate Professor and Course Coordinator under the guidance and convenorship of Prof. Amrish Vaid, Head, Division of Plant Pathology. The participants of the training programme expressed great satisfaction and hoped for early introduction of cultivation of medicinal mushrooms in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir so that the mushroom growers could start up their own medicinal mushroom units.
