Tripura: BJP workers who raised ‘Biplab Hotao Tripura Bachao’ slogan attacked

Agartala, Dec 12 (UNI) Trouble in Tripura BJP has spread from state cabinet and state office to village level workers after Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb asked party executives to identify the people who had sloganed against him in front of party’s central observer Vinod Kumar Sonkar during his first visit on Dec 6 last.

According to report, on the Chief Minister’s direction, BJP leaders have been directed to identify the people in the crowd who had raised ‘Biplab Hotao Tripura Bachao’ (Remove Biplab to Save Tripura) slogan before Sonkar.

As many as six people from different parts of Tripura have so far been allegedly identified and they were assaulted.

The BJP Yuba Morcha General Secretary of Belonia in South Tripura Ajitabha Majumdar lodged an FIR last night against his party leaders for assaulting him and two other BJP workers in the party office accusing them of raising “Biplab Hatao” slogan.

Three other BJP workers of Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district were also assaulted on Dec 10 last allegedly for the same reason.

Majumdar alleged that he was taken to BJP office in Belonia along with two others and in presence of Mandal president they were accused of raising slogans against Biplab Deb and beaten up badly.

Refuting the allegation, Majumdar said, “Our family is known as anti-left since long. In 2017, I left my job in Bangaluru to join BJP. We toil hard to bring the party in power and I have become leader of Yuba Morcha. Recently, dissidence among MLAs against Chief Minister weakened the party and when we heard that the new observer was coming we went there but did not raise any slogan.”

He claimed that the people who raised allegations had been with the CPI (M) for a long time and enjoyed power during the left regime.

After BJP came to power in 2018, they switched over to BJP overnight and in a short period of time with the “blessings” of the Chief Minister and state President became big leaders and are now working against the party.

“It’s not a single case, everywhere in Tripura such intruders have been doing anti-social activities and defaming the party. The Chief Minister has failed to manage the 36 MLAs and they are slandering each other. The party state leadership is also following the same practice without thinking about future of BJP in Tripura and as a result, the common people and lower level party workers have become frustrated,” Majumdar said.

Over a thousand of BJP workers had assembled in State Guest House to convey their grievances against the present leadership but when they could not get a chance to speak with Sonkar, they started shouting slogans against Chief Minister Biplab Deb to attract his attention, he said.

“It is not possible to identify in a crowd who sloganed against the CM. The local leaders are using this as an opportunity to vent their anger against the people whom they don’t like, ” he said.

Meanwhile, the statements of BJP general secretary Papia Datta and MLA Mimi Majumdar against the MLAs, who have been opposing Biplab Kumar Deb, have triggered controversy in the party circle.

They slammed the dissenting MLAs and without naming anyone advised them to leave the party if they didn’t like Biplab Deb’s rule and if they wanted to bring Congress culture.

Reacting to this, BJP MLA Sushanta Choudhury said, “Both Papia and Mimi joined BJP only a few years ago from CPI-M when they felt BJP would come to power. Still, their family members are in CPI-M. On the other hand, we have never been with that party. People like us, who joined the BJP from Congress, unseated communists and made Biplab Deb the CM. None of us joined BJP to fulfill personal interests but what about us. I request both of them to maintain decency and consider party’s interest not the opposition’s.”

He further stated, “Though we have not been asked anything from the party, we (four MLAs) held rallies with thousands of people protesting against the attack on our national president J P Naddaji in West Bengal by TMC goons. Despite having a post in the party, leader like Papia Datta leaders did not utter a single word or hold any protest. Instead they boosted the opposition by defaming each other in the party.”
