Union govt approves widening of Phagwara-Jandiala road: Som Prakash

Phagwara, Sep 6 (UNI) The road from Phagwara to Jandiala would now be given a four-lane look with the approval of the Union Government. Disclosing this on Sunday, Union Minister of State Som Prakash said Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has released an amount of Rs. 15 crore 72 lakh to the Punjab Government in this regard.

Talking to the media at his residence here Sunday, he said the condition of this road was very bad and due to its narrow width there were many accidents but this road was not being improved as it was owned by the state government.

When the matter was brought to Mr Prakash’s notice by the residents of the area, he wrote a letter to Nitin Gadkari after which a budget of Rs. 16 crore 43 lakh was prepared by the PWD from and the amount has been sanctioned.

He said as soon as the bridge at Satnampura came down, the road leading to Ekta Resort which falls under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation would be widened to four lanes and from Ekta Resort to the turn of village Daduwal it would be widened from 22 feet to 33 feet.

He said this road connects Nakodar, Moga and Rajasthan and other roads and heavy vehicles pass through this road due to which it was imperative to construct it.
