UP govt extends wheat procurement season till June 30

Lucknow, July 15 : The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday extended the wheat procurement season till June 30 to ensure no wheat farmer faces inconvenience. The extended period is expected to benefit farmers.
Chairing a high level review meeting, the Chief Minister directed the officials, “The process of wheat procurement should be continued till June 30. Order for extension of purchase period should be made with immediate effect. We are committed to ensuring farm prosperity.”
The Yogi-led government in UP is determined to safeguard the interests of the farmers. Ahead of monsoon, the CM also instructed for adequate arrangements to be made for the protection of the wheat being procured. “The endeavour is to ensure that there is no loss to farmers. Payment will be credited into their accounts. This is the responsibility of the government,” he said.
In view of the instructions given by the CM, the department of Food and Civil Supplies is preparing to transfer food grain to the depots to save it from rain.
The UP government has so far bought total wheat worth over Rs 651 crores at the Minimum Support Price till June 14 of the ongoing 2022-23 marketing year. This has benefitted about 85,000 farmers in the state and the payment is being made within 72 hours of the purchase directly to their bank accounts.
