Venkaiah hails bhoomi pujan of new Parliament building

New Delhi, Dec 10 (UNI) Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday hailed the bhoomi pujan for laying the foundation stone of a new Parliament, hoping that it would be “an iconic symbol of both our ancient ethos and 21st-century aspirations”.

Extending best wishes to Parliamentarians and the people on the occasion, he termed the day as a historic day in the annals of India’s parliamentary democracy and expressed happiness that foundation of a new Parliament building was being laid.

“It will be an iconic symbol of both our ancient ethos & 21st-century aspirations. My heartiest congratulations to PM,” he said in a series of tweets after the PM laid laid the foundation stone for the new Parliament building, which is expected to be completed by 2022 at an estimated cost of Rs 971 crore.

“I sincerely hope that the new Parliament building will be the venue to deepen our democratic roots and build upon the ancient Indian tradition of debate and dialogue. May it bring an improvement in the quality of polity and the quality of life of every citizen in the country.

My best wishes to the Parliamentarians and the people of our country on this historic occasion. I look forward to the successful completion of this new sacred shrine of democracy.”
