Work on Ganga Expressway initiated during BSP regime, but Cong, BJP, SP created hurdles: Mayawati

Lucknow, Dec 18 : Claiming that work on Ganga Expressway was initiated during the regime of Bahujan Samaj Party, BSP chief Mayawati on Saturday claimed that Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Samajwadi Party not only opposed the move, but also created hurdles in it.

Mayawati tweeted, “BSP government was making efforts to connect Poorvanchal directly with Delhi by constructing eight-lane Ganga Expressway and resolve problem created by flood, besides eradicating poverty, desertion and unemployment, but at that time Congress, BJP and SP created hurdles and opposed it.”

She termed the foundation-laying ceremony of Ganga Expressway ahead of elections as a means to befool the people.

“After that, SP and now even five years of double engine government of BJP are completing in UP, that means after 10 years, foundation of Ganga Expressway, that too in pieces has been laid, when the Assembly elections are round-the-corner. For how long will public be befooled with such type of vested politics? Public caution is needed in the elections,” she said in another tweet.

Besides, the BSP supremo termed privatisation of the national banks as fateful. “BSP understands the plight of poor working people. Therefore, instead of developing wealth of capitalists, it wants development in the capital of the country, so that welfare of the people and country takes place, therefore it does not support the privatisation of banks, but BJP is busy in hurriedly privatising the banks. This is fateful,” she said.

She said the two-day nationwide strike by nine lakh bank employees after getting their two days salary deducted, was inspirational and belligerent. “BSP demands the government to reconsider its decision of privatising banks,” she added.
