Jammu 5 th September 2022 :Scientists of SKUAST-J working under the leadership of Prof. J.P. Sharma, V.C SKUAST-J organized prestigious 11 th Dr. N.P. Datta Memorial Lecture under the ambit of Jammu chapter of ISSS, New Delhi,. The lead speaker of the lecture was Dr. Debashis Chakraborty, National fellow, ICAR and Principal scientist, IARI, New Delhi.
He worked at the Rothamsted Research U.K. as Post Doctoral Fellow and had more than 120 publications. Dr. Vivak M. Arya, Secretary, Jammu chapter of ISSS gave a detailed presentation about the objectives and activities of the local chapter of the society. Prof. Debashis delivered lecture on the theme “Soil Carbon Enigma- Can We Win Over For Our Prosperity?”. He highlighted the importance of carbon sequestration for meeting the challenges of climate change. He
thrusted that the research modules should be formulated in such a way that major stocks and pools of carbon can be stored in soil for longer period. He gave various examples citing literatures and models from across the world, wherein it is reported that combination of good resource conservation technology, INM and zero tillage have the potential to sequester carbon. The lecture was attended by more than 75 research scholars, teachers and scientists. The programme was also
attended by Dr. Pradeep Wali, Director Research; Prof. A.K. Mondal, Dean FoA; Prof. Vikas Sharma, HOD and President of Jammu Chapter; Prof. N.P. Thakur, Chief Scientist, FSR; Prof. Abhijeet Samanta; Dr. Renu Gupta; Prof. Vikas Abrol; Prof. Peeyush Sharma, Dr. Sarabdeep Kaur, Dr. Manpreet Kaur and Dr. Veena Sharma.
