Says India’s absence from the tournament would be a significant setback for Pakistan
Jammu, Nov 30: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta today expressed strong support for the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to not send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy scheduled in 2025. He hailed the BCCI’s stance, emphasizing that India’s absence from the tournament would be a significant setback for Pakistan.
The BCCI’s decision comes at a time when India is continuously facing challenges posed by Pakistan, particularly in the form of cross-border terrorism and other security concerns.
In a statement issued here today, the BJP stalwart stated, “Pakistan has consistently backstabbed India, even during times when the country was under Congress rule. Their history of exporting terrorism, engaging in narco-terrorism, and involvement in the killings of Indian civilians, including kidnapping and bomb blasts, is well documented.”
He criticized the Congress Party for even considering the possibility of sending the Indian team to Pakistan. “The Congress Party’s mindset seems to be driven by political considerations, particularly vote banks. They think that relationships can be built with those who have repeatedly harmed our nation. This is unacceptable,” he asserted.
On the subject of the India-Pakistan cricket match, Kavinder pointed out, “As residents of Jammu and Kashmir, we have seen firsthand the brutality of terrorism, especially in recent months. Thousands of innocent lives have been lost, and the Congress Party’s inclination to compromise on national security for political gains is deeply concerning. The relationship with Pakistan cannot be built at the cost of the lives of Indian citizens or the unity of our country.”
Kavinder also emphasized that there would be no compromise on national security or the integrity of the Indian cricket team. “India’s stance on Pakistan has always been firm, and there will be no deviation from this. Sending our cricket team to Pakistan, a country that consistently fosters terrorism and hostility, sends the wrong message to our citizens and the international community,” he said.
He asserted that the BCCI’s decision was in the best interest of the nation and urged the Congress Party to prioritize India’s security over political interests.
