New Delhi, – Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta met Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu in Delhi to press for improved air services in the region. He highlighted the urgent need to start flights from Kargil and Thoise (Nubra) under the UDAN scheme, as these areas remain cut off for long periods due to harsh terrain and road closures.
The LG stressed that current winter air services run by the IAF are limited and insufficient for residents, with only emergency travelers, students, and patients benefitting. He called for the use of turboprop aircraft with up to 50 seats to ensure year-round connectivity and also suggested a feasibility study at Kargil Airport involving MoCA, DGCA, and AAI.
Raising concern over steep airfares, Shri Gupta urged the Ministry to bring in a fair price mechanism to make travel affordable. He also sought early completion of the new terminal at Leh Airport to handle rising passenger demand.
The Union Minister assured full cooperation and promised steps to strengthen Ladakh’s air network for the benefit of its people.
