Leh, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, has unveiled a forward-looking plan to build a self-sufficient and eco-friendly Ladakh. Central to the roadmap is the expansion of polycarbonate greenhouses under the award-winning Ladakh Greenhouse Project, designed to boost local vegetable production throughout the year and reduce dependence on supplies from outside the region.
Reviewing progress with senior officials, the LG stressed the need for innovation across agriculture, handicrafts, animal husbandry, horticulture, and allied sectors. Special focus was placed on strengthening the world-renowned pashmina industry, ensuring better welfare for Changthang herders, and upgrading kid pens to safeguard young goats during harsh winters.
The LG also highlighted opportunities in promoting camel milk as a niche health product, expanding sea buckthorn plantations along the Indus, and modernising apricot processing to benefit farmers.
As part of the carbon-neutral mission inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gupta called for EV charging stations every 30 km to accelerate electric mobility in the region. He also directed urgent measures like dog population management through sterilisation drives.
With these initiatives, Ladakh aims to balance tradition with innovation, driving sustainable growth and self-reliance.
