
Leh, – Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, has called for uninterrupted potable water supply to every rural home through functional household tap connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). He underlined the importance of year-round availability, community responsibility, timely user fee collection, and penalties for defaulters to ensure the mission’s success.
Presiding over a review meeting at the LG Secretariat, Shri Gupta evaluated progress across Public Health Engineering, Irrigation & Flood Control, Food & Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology, School Education, Higher Education, and Skill Development departments.
During the session, he launched the Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM), a nationwide science talent initiative for students of Classes VI–XI, aiming to foster scientific curiosity and digital learning. He also instructed educational institutions to host Tiranga Rallies before Independence Day to ignite patriotism among youth.
Administrative Secretary Rahul Sharma presented updates on major water and irrigation projects, including Rs 707 crore worth of 24×7 supply schemes in Leh and Kargil, along with irrigation initiatives under FMBAP. He also reviewed free grain distribution under NFSA 2013 and measures to curb misuse of ration benefits.
In the education sector, Administrative Secretary Bhanu Prabha outlined progress under Samagra Shiksha, PM SHRI, PM Poshan, and higher education reforms aligned with NEP 2020. She flagged challenges such as low Gross Enrolment Ratio and teacher training needs.
Highlighting the importance of quality local education, Shri Gupta urged capacity building for teachers, ICT integration in ITI Leh, and renewable energy adoption—such as wind power—at the University of Ladakh to cut costs and promote sustainability. He also pushed for skill development so local youth can participate in large projects like the solar power plant at Pang.
The LG concluded by calling for strict action to remove fake ration cards and prevent diversion of subsidised food.
