NEW DELHI, —Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that due to the inaction and insensitivity of the BJP Government at the Centre and the BJP Government in Delhi, the soldiers, who protect the country to protect our lives, have to go through the agony of crossing a dirty and highly polluted drain four times daily to reach the Parade Ground, and this exercise has been going on for the past many years with the concerned authorities not giving any attention to build an overbridge over the drain. He said that the Delhi High Court has taken cognizance of a PIL seeking construction of a foot over bridge over a nalla for soldiers of the Rajputana Rifles to reach the Parade Ground from the barracks and has issued orders to the Delhi government’s PWD department, Delhi Cantonment and the traffic police to prepare a draft budget, design and timeline for the construction of the bridge over the drain.
Shri Devender Yadav said that the Court has also ordered that the cost of construction of the foot over bridge shall be borne by the PWD as despite the proposal for construction of a FOB over the drain having been approved several years ago, no brick has been laid for the construction of the bridge.
Shri Devender Yadav said that when the soldiers protecting the country are facing so much trouble in reaching the parade ground, and when all the drains of Delhi overflow during the monsoon, it shows complete collapse of the civic services in the Capital, despite Delhi boasting of a triple engine BJP Government.
Shri Devender Yadav said that the way Delhi has been getting water-logged during monsoon, life has been disrupted and there are long jams on the roads and in such conditions, is it not the moral duty of the Delhi Government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, NDMC and the Delhi Development Authority to understand the plight of the people of Delhi, and tackle civic issues on a priority basis? He said that the Lieutenant Governor and the Delhi Chief Minister should take cognizance of the waterlogging in Delhi.
