Thane, Mar 10 with 707 new coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours, a tally has spiked to 2,71,161, an official said on Wednesday.
With the addition of six new death cases, a total of death cases has surged to 6,312.
The mortality rate was 2.33 per cent, he added.
So far, 2,57,521 patients have recuperated from the infection, which took the recovery rate to 94.97 per cent. There were 7,328 active cases in the district at present, the official said.
In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID-19 case count has gone up to 46,389 while the death toll is 1,206 he said.
