Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology–Jammu (SKUAST-J) hosted an awareness programme focused on “Global Environmental Challenges and India’s Sustainable Approach.” The event was organized by NSS SKUAST-J in partnership with Yuva Bharat Jammu Unit and Vigyan Bharati, aiming to sensitize students on the growing environmental crisis and their role in shaping solutions.
The programme began with a symbolic floral tribute to Maa Bharati, followed by the ceremonial welcome of guests with saplings. Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, graced the programme as the Chief Guest. In his address, he encouraged students to adopt a hygienic and eco-friendly lifestyle and educate communities about cleanliness and responsible waste management. He urged the youth to embrace the core approach of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, highlighting that minimising waste generation is the foundation of long-term environmental stability.
Keynote speaker Sh. Rakesh Jain, noted social worker and National Coordinator of Yuva Bharat, shared insights on how rapid and unplanned development has placed immense pressure on natural ecosystems. He encouraged students to work on three central missions — PED (Plant trees), PAANI (Conserve water), and POLYTHENE (Reduce plastic use) — strengthening individual responsibility toward environmental protection.
Senior officials including Dr. Anil Kumar (Registrar & Dean FoA) and Dr. Vinod Gupta (Coordinator, Yuva Bharat Jammu Unit) were present. Dr. Gupta introduced the guests and shared the vision behind the initiative. The event was conducted as part of the regular NSS activities under the guidance of Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap (NSS Coordinator), along with programme officers Dr. Narinder Panotra, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. Veena Sharma and Dr. Rakesh K. Sharma.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kashyap, followed by light refreshments for students. The event successfully motivated the youth toward environmental awareness, action, and nation-building based on sustainable values.
