Jammu, : BJP State Vice President Rajeev Charak voiced concern over the hardships faced by citizens in Jammu and Kashmir after the recent calamity. He held Congress and the National Conference accountable, accusing them of decades of neglect in ensuring basic facilities like water, electricity, and roads.
Charak alleged that successive NC governments encouraged illegal settlements on natural waterways for vote-bank gains. He named colonies such as Sheikh Nagar, Qasim Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, and Indira Colony—built on riverbeds and khads—as reasons behind recurrent loss of life and property.
He further mentioned encroachments in Gujjar Nagar, Ragura–Dawara, Majheen, Gorkha Nagar, Nakki Tawi, and areas like Baljalta, Sidhra, Narwal, Sunjwan, and Bathindi Khad, allegedly facilitated by top NC leaders, including Dr. Farooq Abdullah and his ministers.
The BJP leader also criticized government agencies like JDA and the Housing Board for constructing colonies on natural water channels, worsening the crisis.
Charak demanded strict removal of all encroachments and safe rehabilitation for displaced families, warning that without urgent corrective action, people would continue to face disasters every few years.
