Kapurthala police nabs two members of Badonga gang

Phagwara, Dec 22 : Kapurthala Police have arrested two members of the Badonga Gang and seized two .32 bore pistols, nine live cartridges and 20 gram heroin from their possession, police informed here on Wednesday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Jasvir Singh of village Rihana Jattan (Kapurthala) and Pardeep Singh of village Ratenda in SBS Nagar district.

Addressing a press conference, Kapurthala SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that under the supervision of Phagwara SP Harinder Pal Singh, DSP Phagwara and in charge CIA staff Phagwara Sub Inspector Sikander Singh, a police team led by ASI Paramjit Singh was on patrolling duty near GNA University, Bhogpur gate in search of anti-social elements.

He said that the team had laid a special naka there and started checking vehicles coming from Bhogpur side and going towards Phagwara when they spotted two bike-borne boys coming towards them.

The SSP said that when the boys saw police naka, they pulled out two packed envelopes from their pockets and threw them on the left side of the road. On suspicion, the police party stopped them and during checking of the envelopes, they recovered 10 gram heroin from each envelop. The police party also recovered .32 bore two pistols and nine live cartridges from the possession of the accused.

SSP Khakh said that two of them were active members of the Badonga gang whose kingpin had murdered BSP worker Ram Saroop in broad daylight in Phillaur subdivision of Jalandhar on September 25, 2019.

However, the SSP said that police would seek further remand of the accused to question their role in the murder and source of weapons and ammunition.

He said that both of them remained at large since the incident and were declared proclaimed offender by the court.

He said that a case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of NDPS Act and 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against them at Rawalpindi police station.

He also added that the accused are habitual offenders and wanted in dozen of criminal cases registered at different police stations of Punjab. They have indulged in gang wars and public brawl in the past, he said.
