NEW DELHI, July 10, 2025—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that long before the monsoon rain lashed the Capital, Delhi Congress had warned that the BJP Government led by Rekha Gupta was ill-prepared to tackle flooding and water-logging as nothing much had been done to prevent the accumulation of rain water on the streets, and that’s what Delhi had witnessed on Wednesday when heavy showers submerged most roads and underpasses in the Capital to expose the lie of “Super CM” Parvesh Verma’s claim that desilting of drains and sewers have been completed, and stormwater drains were ready to absorb the rain water, He said that the sad part was that despite extending the deadline for completing the desilting work multiple times, the Public Works Department could not effectively do its job, and wherever the desilting work was done, the muck was not removed, which flowed back into the drains when pre-monsoon rains lashed the Capital last month and early this month, defeating the very purpose of cleaning the drains, which had been repeatedly pointed out by Delhi Congress, but to no effect.
Shri Devender Yadav said that the corrupt Kejriwal Government allowed the drains, sewers and stormwater drains to be chocked with filth as no desilting work had been done for over 11 years, though Kejriwal looted the tax payers’ money for desilting works never carried out. He said that the BJP Government was only following the corrupt ways of Kejriwal to betray the people of Delhi, who elected BJP to power expecting good governance, but the Rekha Gupta Government has been busy in publicity stunts and wasting public money on renovating official bungalows instead of undertaking civic works for the restoration of the city’s dilapidated infrastructure.
Shri Devender Yadav said that the Congress Government, led by Smt. Sheila Dikshit, had prepared a Drainage Master Plan in association with IIT, Delhi, but it was not implemented by the Kejriwal Government, resulting in the present crisis. He demanded that the third party audit of the desilting works of the previous and present Governments should be made public, so that the public gets to know the truth about the desilting works done.
Shri Devender Yadav said that it seems that only the Government has changed in Delhi, but not corruption, nor the contractors or officials who continue to call the shots, with the only difference being that earlier Kejriwal and other AAP leaders used to get the commissions and now that commission money goes to the BJP leaders, with no end to the agony of the people of Delhi in sight.
