‘There’s a difference between suicide & custodial death’
JAMMU: Senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta on Thursday slammed PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti for leveling baseless allegation of custodial death of an alleged over ground worker, who was called for questioning in Billawar Police Station.
In a statement issued to media persons, the BJP stalwart leader said that Mehbooba Mufti is jumping to conclusions in this case after relying on rumours. He said that making a false image of police without any concrete proof is unwarranted and therefore political entities like Mehbooba Mufti should show maturity and restrain in such cases which require thorough probe to unravel the truth. He said that there is a big difference between suicide and custodial death, and therefore without substantial evidence or proper investigation, public representatives should not spread unnecessary rumours having the potential to create discord in the society merely to achieve political mileage. He alleged that Mehbooba often manipulates situations to suit her political agenda. He said that by toeing such a line, the PDP leader is doing no good to the people of J&K rather she is creating an unnecessary wedge among different shades of people through a divisive line of action, which in the long run will prove detrimental to one and all in the region. He asked her to keep a balanced approach in such cases as truth will come to fore only after proper probe in the matter and before the completion of inquest proceedings giving misleading statements is not advisable especially for the political class belonging to sensitive region like J&K.
