Jammu, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu celebrated the 77th Republic Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour, reflecting the spirit of unity, democracy, and constitutional values. The university campus resonated with national pride as faculty members, students, and staff came together to commemorate the occasion with dignity and collective participation.
National Flag Hoisted by Vice Chancellor
The celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Tricolour by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B. N. Tripathi. The flag hoisting symbolised the ideals of unity, integrity, and patriotism that form the foundation of the Indian Republic. Floral tributes were also paid to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, in remembrance of his enduring legacy and contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Tripathi reflected on the immense sacrifices made by freedom fighters and emphasized the importance of upholding the Constitution of India. He described the Constitution as the guiding framework of the nation’s governance and democratic functioning.
Constitution as the Strength of Indian Democracy
The Vice Chancellor highlighted that India’s identity as the world’s largest and most vibrant democracy rests on the constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. He stated that these principles have enabled the country to progress while maintaining social harmony and inclusiveness.
He further stressed that educational institutions play a crucial role in nurturing responsible citizens who understand and respect democratic values. According to him, universities must go beyond academic instruction and actively contribute to nation-building through research, innovation, and social engagement.
Role of SKUAST Jammu in Agricultural Development
During his address, Prof. Tripathi commended the collective efforts of statutory officers, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff for strengthening SKUAST Jammu’s position as a leading institution in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the university’s pioneering role in agricultural research, extension services, and farmer-centric initiatives.
He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and improving the livelihoods of the farming community. By integrating research with field-level applications, SKUAST Jammu continues to support sustainable agriculture and rural development in the region.
Focus on Infrastructure and Student Welfare
The Vice Chancellor also spoke about ongoing efforts to strengthen academic infrastructure and expand student amenities. He noted that the university is focused on improving research facilities, modernizing laboratories, and providing better learning resources to students. Emphasis is also being placed on student welfare initiatives to create a supportive and inclusive academic environment.
Cultural Programmes Add Colour to Celebrations
The cultural segment of the Republic Day celebration featured soulful patriotic songs presented by students. These performances added emotional depth to the event and reinforced the message of national unity and pride. The enthusiasm and discipline displayed by the students reflected the vibrant campus culture of the university.

On the occasion, meritorious students were felicitated for their outstanding achievements in athletics, Prime Minister’s Fellowships, and other areas of excellence. The recognition served as encouragement for students to pursue academic and extracurricular excellence while contributing positively to society.
Historic NCC Flag March
A special highlight of this year’s celebration was the first-ever ceremonial flag march conducted by the NCC Wing of SKUAST Jammu. The march showcased discipline, coordination, and a strong sense of patriotism, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
The presence of all statutory officers during the event underscored the institutional importance of the Republic Day celebration. The programme was organised under the guidance of Prof. Sudhakar Dwivedi, Dean, Students Welfare, SKUAST Jammu.
